British Psychedelic Music

Around 1967 artists and bands emerged from the British blues scene, influenced by folk, jazz and a growing sense of psychedelia, including ...

The Beau Brummell Club

The Beau Brummell Club at Alvaston Hall, near Nantwich, had some great acts in 1967. We've found dates for the following groups:
  • 30 April 1967 Geno Washington & The Ram Jam Band
  • 22 August 1967 Freddie Mack
  • 03 September 1967 Reg Dwight (aka Elton John)
  • 22 October 1967 The Herd
  • 19 November 1967 Freddie Mack
Did you attend any of these concerts? Have you any photos or memorabilia? Have we missed and great gigs? We'd love to hear from you?

  1. I was a member of the resident band at the Beau Brummel Club in the late 1960s. I have a 'photo of two of the band playing there in 1967. The band members were; Phil Rylance, Jonty Ellwood, Dave Heaps, Dickie Vernon, Les Holmes and John Elsby. We also had Roger Keay and Dave Birkenhead in the line up from time to time. Good times.

  2. In the late 60's I used to visit my mate Chris Carr in Holywell at weekends. He was studying Catering at Flint College and he worked in a Restaurant opposite Chester Cathedral during the summer, and he stayed in a big house (split into flats) that the Restaurant Owner had on the outskirts of Chester. His neighbour in Holywell was the DJ at the Beau Brummell in Nantwich, so on Sunday nights we used to help him load and unload his gear in his van - including my Lambretta Scooter and take it from Holywell to the Beau Brummel, and at the end of the night, after loading the gear in the van, I would head home to Eccles, Manchester on my Scooter. The Brummel was a great club, always busy and it had some great bands....especially some of the best touring Soul bands of the time - many from the USA. Happy daze.
